Should skipping school be a crime for juveniles and their parents? Texas has one of the largest #massincarceration populations in the US, (1063/100K), yet they are making some of the most progressive changes in criminal justice reform.

This is the first school year in 20 that Texas will not criminalize truancy. Also, all current truancy charges will be expunged from student's records. Instead, children will go through a "behavior Improvement plan", a much better option for all.
In 2013 alone the state generated nearly 200,000 criminal cases against truant children and their parents. Can you imagine going to jail because your kid skipped class? (It happens!) --not to mention the burden on the court systems!!
